Aktrapid Nursing Agency is one of Melbourne's leading nursing agencies, specializing in recruiting, training, and placing nurses and support staff across various healthcare sectors. With nearly four decades of experience, Aktrapid wanted to modernize its staffing services by creating a specialized mobile app tailored for aged care and nursing homes across Australia. The goal was to enhance the efficiency of managing shifts, streamline communication between the agency and staff, and simplify the overall experience for nurses and caregivers.The core functionality of the Aktrapid app includes real-time updates on confirmed and current shift statuses, the ability to accept released shifts, clock in and out, manage availability, receive directions to client locations, and more. Our task was to design and develop this app with a focus on user-friendly navigation and operational efficiency.

Design Process

The design of Governa AI's platform was centered around user experience and AI-driven insights. Our goal was to develop an intuitive system that simplifies complex regulatory requirements while making advanced AI tools accessible to aged care providers.

Research & User Interviews

We interviewed nursing staff and caregivers to understand their daily challenges, particularly around shift management and communication. These insights informed the design, ensuring that the app addressed real-world needs.

Wireframing & Prototyping

We developed wireframes and interactive prototypes that allowed us to test the app’s flow with users. Based on feedback, we iterated on the design to make it as intuitive and efficient as possible.

UI/UX Design

The final design features a clean, minimalistic interface that prioritizes essential information. We ensured that features such as accepting shifts, updating availability, and clocking in/out were easy to access with minimal navigation.

The design process was agile, allowing us to make continuous improvements based on user feedback and changing compliance requirements.

Development Process

The development of the Aktrapid app focused on creating a robust backend system to manage real-time data updates and user actions, while ensuring the frontend remained smooth and responsive.

Technology Stack

We built the app using React Native for cross-platform compatibility, with a secure cloud-based backend built on Node.js and MongoDB. This allowed for real-time data synchronization and efficient handling of multiple user requests simultaneously.

Real-Time Updates

One of the core features of the app is real-time updates for shift availability and statuses. We implemented WebSocket connections to ensure that users receive notifications and updates instantly.

Geolocation & Mapping Integration

The app integrates with Google Maps to provide directions to client locations. This feature was optimized to allow seamless transitions between map navigation and other app functions.

User Authentication & Security

We implemented secure authentication methods to ensure that user data and sensitive information such as shift details were protected. All communication between the app and backend is encrypted to comply with industry standards.

Testing & QA

Rigorous testing was conducted to ensure the app’s performance, reliability, and security. We tested the app across multiple devices and environments to eliminate bugs and ensure smooth operation for end-users.

Release & Post-Launch

The Aktrapid app was successfully launched, providing nursing staff and caregivers with an intuitive tool for managing their shifts. The initial rollout included comprehensive user training and support to ensure a smooth transition to the new system. Within the first few weeks, the app saw high user engagement and positive feedback from the staff using it to manage their shifts and communication with the agency.Post-launch, we provided ongoing maintenance and updates to the app, including additional features and performance enhancements based on user feedback. Aktrapid Nursing Agency continues to benefit from the efficiency gains and improved communication enabled by the app, allowing them to focus more on delivering quality care to their clients.
